Anna Falcini – art installation

March 2024: Anna Falcini – art installation, Herne Bay, Kent.

Anna recently contacted me to photograph her during an art installation, located in a Herne Bay gallery, near the sea front.

Anna was recently based within the gallery, at a space to the back, for a day. I arrived soon after lunch time, looked at the layout, made some decisions on which shots / angles I’d like to photograph from, then got started.

The space was a nice size to work in and there was natural light coming in through the skylights. Some of the photos are capturing the space, others are of artwork details.

Anna organised, thought and created artwork whilst I took photos. The key during the commission was to take candid style images, to capture the artist surrounded by her art, whilst creating new artwork. Members of the general public entered the space from time to time to look at the art and artist at work. This idea, for an installation gives the public a chance to engage with art and an artist.

I always try and get some interesting angles where I can, often lying on the floor to get low angles. It’s not always good if you are wearing your best clobber! I tend to work in jeans, t-shirt, fleece, for comfort. However, I do get corporate commissions, which usually mean I’m dressed more formally – but the days of wearing a suit and tie whilst at work seem in the past (I’m glad to say).
