Retouching (vintage photo)

February 2019: Photoshop retouching on a vintage sepia print – a print that is water damaged and full of blemishes.

There were plenty of damaged areas on the original print, lots of spots of mould and even some areas where the image had worn away. Plenty of scope for a Photoshop lover to get stuck into.

During the process you cannot help thinking about the subjects personalities and their stories. There is a side to this which is satisfying as the image is slowly worked back to how it looked when it was new.

It certainly interesting when you analyse the photo – the way the photographer has arranged the subjects and use of a gothic looking backdrop! The subjects have dressed up smartly for the shot (as they did in that age); It’s of a certain era but you cannot help but be impressed with the photographer’s skill in composition and eye for detail.
